If you are planning to buy a table top air purifier then you should look into the GermGuardian AC4100. Priced under $100, the little air cleaner is designed simply enough. There are no sensors or automation modes. However, it does not mean it is not worth buying. Read on to see if it is a good fit.

The CADR is 64 for pollen that indicates it is designed to purify air in small spaces. There is no information about its square foot coverage, but to be on the safe side, install it in rooms 70-80 sq. feet in size. At 4.85 lbs, it is light in weight. The overall dimensions are 7.5″ x 6.5″ x 11″ so that it fits easily on our desk top. It is small and very light, something that you can move from room to room.

This GermGuardian unit comes equipped with two types of filters; a hepa filter and a charcoal pre-filter. It is recommended to replace the hepa filter every 6-8 months months depending on how contaminated the air is. The replacement filter for this air purifier (FLT4100) costs around $24. As you know, HEPA filters come in grades. The one on this air purifier is intended to capture 99% of airborned particles as small as 0.7 microns.

The GermGuardian AC4100 is designed for odor reduction. While the charcoal layer serves as a pre-filter for capturing large dust particles, the activated carbon also absorbs household and pet odors. This device is something that you can put on a small kitchen to get rid of food smells after cooking. Its ability to remove mild household odors has pleased many consumers.

In addition to the HEPA and charcoal filtration sytem, it has a UV-C light that works with titanium dioxide to tackle airborne germs and bacteria. Titanium dioxide is a photocatalyst. Often found in paint and sunscreen, this unreactive, solid material reacts with sunlight and can kill bacteria when lit by ultraviolet light. Located on the front is a botton to turn this feature on or off. Replacement bulb is availsble for purchase (around $15). The AC4100 has NO ionizer.

The standard, two prong AC plug fits into a 120V plug outlet. This little device has 3 fan speed settings. In terms of noise level, some reviews say that this compact air purifier is noisy at the highest setting. However, it is a normal fan noise that is more like a white noise. If you are used to a sound machine, the noise from this purifier should not bother you.

Not all customer reviews are positive. A number of customers on Amazon have reported that it is a little louder than expected. Also keep in mind that this model is not ideal for larger areas and heavy odors.

Despite the criticisms that have been leveled at this product, the majority of customers have been satisfied with their purchase. As of this writing, this low-budget air cleaner scores 4.2 stars out of 5 on Amazon.

It does not come with a true HEPA filter. That being said, with multiple levels of cleaning, it seems to do a good job in purifying the air in a small space. People have also reported that it does a good job at minimizing light odors.

There are few complaints that it takes up a lot of room on desk. However, it cannot be argued that the smaller size makes it easy to carry and move. There is an indicator to help you keep track of when you need to change the filter.

The 3-in-1 table top air purifier would not fit everyone’s requirements. But if you are in the market for a compact air purifying system that works well in purifying the air in a small office or bathroom, then the GermGuardian AC4100 is worth considering.
